Why housing should stay under 28% of gross income
Lenders cap most conventional loans so the total monthly housing payment — principal, interest, taxes, insurance, PMI, HOA — doesn't exceed 28% of your gross monthly income. That's the front-end ratio, and it's the first thing underwriters check.
